 Middle & Upper School

The Brownell-Talbot James Upper and Middle School Library is meant to provide timely scholarly resources.

Reading for information and leisure and general use of the library is encouraged for all students and teachers. Library patrons encounter an atmosphere conducive to study, research, and reading. Fines for materials late, damaged or not returned to the school may be assessed.

Safe, reliable information is available 24/7 through subscriptions to on-line databases such as Elibrary. The librarian or classroom teachers provide students with the needed usernames and passwords to access the electronic databases off campus.

The James Library provides an automated collection of over 11,000 books, magazines, other print and electronic resources, and audiovisual materials for all Upper School students grades nine through twelve, and Middle School students in grades five through eight.

Readers and researchers are welcome between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students must obtain passes from teachers to visit the library during scheduled class or study hall times. Upper School students may use the library during free periods without a teacher pass. From time to time, the James Library will be closed for testing or special meetings.

Lower School 

The Laura Jeannette James Library provides a charming learning environment for the Lower School. Students and teachers in grades preschool through grade four may access more than 6,000 titles. Teachers bring their class to visit the library weekly so that the students may check out books, have lessons and listen to stories. Computers are available for research and to access library resources.
